The 3rd Popular Urban Athletics Event PALMA was celebrated on Saturday, 5th June, at the Platja de Palma. The event was attended by many people and over 300 athletes competed in the different disciplines held during the event.

Both men's and women's pole vault was contested during the morning for associated athletes. The winners have been Joan Jordà, with a leap of 3.90 metres and Mª Luisa Gracia with 2.90m. Races and hurdle races, pole vaults assisted by coaches, pentasalto, hammer throw and javeline throw for children were held during the course of the afternoon. A total of 150 children learnt today about the different athletic disciplines.

The most expected event, i.e. the men's elite pole vault discipline, began at 18:00 hrs. Well-acknowledged national athletes contested this category, such as Alexandre Sola, Dídac Salas, Eloi Guimera, Adrià Puig, Albert Velez, Abraham Medalon and Luis Fernando Moro. The event was led by the Jury of the Athletics Federation of the Balearic Islands. Albert Velez won the discipline with an impressive leap of 5.30 metres, Didac Salas and Luis Fernando Moro became second and third, respectively, with 4.80 metres. It was an extraordinary performance to the joy of the numerous passers-by strolling along the Platja de Palma. Over 1,000 people attended the athletic competitions throughout the course of the day.

With the purpose of approaching the world of athletics to citizens, several activities and open events were organised at this year's Urban Athletics Event Palma in order to give everyone interested in joining the event the opportunity to participate. It is worth hightlighting at this point that this year's edition has also aimed to approach the world of athletics to children. Hence, a total of 150 children greatly enjoyed the activities that had been specifically designed for them and adapted to their age and abilities.

The 3rd Urban Athletics Event PALMA has been organised by the Municipal Sports Institute from the Town Hall of Palma and by the Athletics Club Amistat, in collaboration with the Presidency Delegation for Sports of the Balearic Government, the Department for Sports of the Council of Mallorca, the Athletics' Federation of the Balearic Islands, La Caixa, Acciona, Gastalver, Gráficas Salas and Coca Cola.
